Rob Walker - Presenter

I started out as a DJ when I was about 18, and I have been a DJ for far too long – according to my wife! My first gig was with some borrowed hi-fi equipment at a house party for a friend, and after a few years I was working 5/6 nights a week doing either mobile work, or working as a resident DJ in various clubs and pubs mainly in the West End and North London area’s.

I was a lover of music from an early age, but got hooked on Soul when I first heard a James Brown track at a local record shop, and walked out that day with two albums by The Godfather of Soul. Over the years I have worked with numerous well known Soul DJ’s, including the late Steve Walsh, Chris Hill, Greg Edwards to name a few and also with my all time favourite DJ, Emperor Rosko. One of my fondest musical memories was introducing the late Edwin Starr at a gig just prior to the new millennium. Soul Music generally and its various forms are my “musical passion” especially Motown, Atlantic and Stax from those magical years of the sixties and Philly, Disco and Funk from the seventies. My show on Pure Rhythm Guy Radio – “The Essential Soul Selection” covers all aspects of Soul Music from the sixties and through the following decades. Added in is an occasional Reggae classic from “back in the day” and also a track or two from recent years.

I have worked on other radio stations over the years both soul and mainstream, and “The Essential Soul Selection” can currently be heard on a few other internet radio stations. If you would like a dedication, or a particular track played, please feel free to get in touch with me, via the contact details provided in my show.
